U.S.1860 Army Percussion Colt…..SOLD
Created on September 4th 2010
A Very Solid 1860 Army Colt in .44 Percussion. s/n 11308
A pleasure to hold in the hand, this all matching Army Colt certainly feels the part. Although almost completely devoid of any finish the gun has not been altered or worked on in any noticable way. Where the colour has gone there is now a smooth silver patina all over.
All serial numbers are matching and easily readable. The single line US address is clear along the top of the round barrel reading “-ADDRESS COL.SAML NEW YORK U.S. AMERICA””
Barrel is round and 8″ long without any loss of thickness or heavy wear, showing strong rifling at the muzzle. The bore is lightly misted with corrosion but in very good condition showing strong rifling all the way along. If used, this gun would perform. Full length loading lever under barrel with partial serial number 1308 on underside of sprung wedge.
Various inspectors marks in the form of the letters ” H” & “T” are visible in the correct places. Steel back strap and brass trigger guard. “COLTS PATENT” stamped on left side of frame. Action and backstrap cut for shoulder stock.
The grips are varnished and show signs of considerable use with some heavy wear on the right side, but are intact and not split. Cylinder stop pins AF. The action functions correctly with correct timing and lock up. The navy battle scene and date are all faint but still visable.
This is a fine, solid and honest example of a Colt firearm that has seen its fair share of service in the field and come out of it in a condition that would grace any collection.
