A Fine British Sea-Service Flintlock.
A good example of the 1776/7 pattern Long Sea Service Pistol
In 56 Caliber. Flat border engraved lock marked “TOWER” with a full size crown over “GR” and the Tower inspection mark of a small crown over the broard arrow laying sideways under the pan. Standard Flat faced cocking piece with steel frizzen and pan. The lock in good working order.
Full length walnut stock with issue and ordenance marks. On left of pistol grip is the Crown mark over arrow over 1805. Also on the left side next to the trigger are two more marks stamped into the wood. One is a crown over a “2” and the other crown over something indistinct. On the belt hook side thee is a “IC” and another indistinct mark. In the cleaning rod channel underneath are more marks of which there are three with crowns over numbers. Further down is a broardly struck arrow or three stikes making up an arrow.
The barrel is 12″ long with three proof and inspection marks on the rear. On the left there are two, one Crown over “GR” and then Crown over crossed scepters, on the right behind the frizzen on the barrel is a Crown over the figure “12”. All these marks appear to be the genuine article as does the rest of the weapon. On the barrel tang, behind the main fixing screw is a clear crown mark.
Brass ramrod pipe, trigger grard, butt-cap and lock retaining plate. Steel Belt Hook. Brass capped oak ramrod. Flint will stike a spark. In all over very good condition for its age – above average. Overall length 19.1/2″
