Walnut Stocked, unused Marlin Model 1895SS in .45-70
Once again purchased abroad at a bankrupt stock auction. Apparently unused, only proof fired in this country. Of standard specification as produced by Marlin. This 1895 measures 40.1/8″ in total length. The round blued barrel is 22″ long and the trigger pull is 13.5/8″ to center of the Cowboy logo marked rubber butt-pad. Lever Action, chambered in .45/70 govt’ with a four-shot tubular magazine underneath the barrel. Put one in the chamber and with the magazine loaded you have a five-shot rifle.
Pistol gripped with factory checkering over an American walnut stock and fore-end. NO damage or losses to stock or checkering. In perfect condition with original factory finish. The checked pistol grip is capped with a factory finished end cap. There is a rubberised Marling butt-pad and two sling swivels. The action uses the large stainless steel circular bolt design of the big bore Marlins and has the loading port to the RHS of the action. All the metallic parts carry the standard high grade Marlin blue with a matt top surface to the action to reduce glare. The top surface is drilled for scope mounting with blanking screws in position.
The serial number “04025330” is on the upper tang behind the hammer. The M1895 is equipped with a cross-bolt safety which will interrupt the hammer strike if set to do so. The rear sights are the conventional buck-horn type as supplied by Marlin with a beaded front sight under a wide-view hood. The LHS of the barrel is marked with the following details; “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. —— NORTH HAVEN. CT. U.S.A. / MODEL 1895SS MICRO-GROOVE BARREL CAL. 45-70 GOV’T”. The bore is as unused the action is slick and positive. In short an 185SS waiting to be broke in.
