Marlin 1895 Lever Action in .45-70
Serial number B 011324 on rear upper tang. Chambered for .45-70 with conventional rifling and open sights. From muzzle to center of butt-pad the rifle measures 40.1/4″ in length. The round blued barrel 21.7/8″ with a dove-tailed fore-sight and rear brass button.
Straight grip American Walnut stock with excellent deep blued action and barrel. The butt-pad is a recoil reducing rubber type which is showing some age cracking. This could be replaced if required but, would be rather noticeable. On the top flat of the action there are threaded holes for the mounting scope rings which at the moment are open and also upon the rear tang. Blanking screws can be sourced if required. There are no bad scratches in any of the metal components just gentle edge wear.
The round bright bolt is part of Marlins’ famous 336 system which contrasts nicely with the blued action. The round tubular magazine which feed it holds four rounds. The rear sight is the Marlin folding rocky mountain type. The barrel is marked as follows: “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO. NORTH HAVEN. CONN. U.S.A. / MODEL 1895 CAL 45-70 GOVT.” The original “quick detachable” sling swivel studs are still in position both at front and rear of the weapon.
For a rifle that was built in 1976 this one is in superb condition, both cosmetically and in a functional sense. The stock has no damage or splits and the deep blued finish is in really good genuine condition with no unsightly scratches or dings. The bore is excellent with no pitting.
A heavy hitting lever action which is freshly London proofed and ready to thump out some more good old .45-70 Government.
