An interesting little Marlin 1894 in .25-20
This rifle is basically in what could be termed “unused condition”. Externally this 1894CL is in fantastic condition, there are literally three or four tiny dings in the woodwork which have to be looked for to be found. Finish over the two piece American walnut stocks is even and not glossy. Mating surfaces between timber and action are perfect, as is the joint between the rubber stock plate and the stock. There are no signs of wear to the finish of the metalwork, not even any high edge wear, the bluing is perfect all over, on all components.
The serial number on this 1894 is on the upper tang and reads “10083041”. The blued action has the standard side opening bolt system and blanking screws for the mounting of a scope on top. It has the safety system where the rifle can not accidentally discharge unless the lever is squeezed against the lower tang. Additionally it has a cross-bolt safety button, which holds the hammer off the firing pin if engaged.
The 1894 CL has a half length magazine under the barrel. The barrel being 21.3/4″ long. The rifle itself is 39″ in overall length. Additionally, this Marlin has a side mounted “WILLIAMS” aperture sight attached to the action, which is fully adjustable. The rear buck-horn sights have a an interesting ability to fold flat, therefore not interfering with the line of sight from aperture to front beaded blade sight.
Barrel markings are as follows; “THE MARLIN FIREARMS CO,. NORTH HAVEN CT.. USA. / MODEL 1894CL “CLASSIC” — CALIBER .25-20″ and on the other side the standard warnings about the dangers of firearms!
The action is perfectly functional and the bore is clean and free of any problems (conventional rifling). An item like this sometimes is termed a “Sleeper”
