1894 Cowboy Lever-Action Rifle in .44 Mag’
If ever one was doubtful as to the meaning of the expression, “ a Sleeper....” within antique collecting circles then, all they need do is cast a critical eye over this example of Marlins 1894 Cowboy; this fulfils all the criteria. It is practically in mint condition. A tiny little dent in the surface of the laquer is the full extent of the damage and a short silver line of high edge wear on the top of the action, are the full extent of the “damage” to the weapon.
Chambered in .44 Rem’ Mag or will take .44 SPL. Of standard Marlin specification for the Cowboy Limited, with a tubular magazine on the underside of the barrel. The action has the serial number 91008251 on the lower LHS and the rifle benefits from the newer cross bolt safety system. The rifle measures a nominal 37″ in overall length. It has the special order hexagonal barrel of 20″ length. The trigger pull length to center is 13.1/2″.
Buckhorn rear sight and loading gate on RHS of action. Dovetail front sight with brass bead. The barrel is marked with the makers name and address and the classic “Misuse may cause injury or death…..!” warning. The action is in fine working condition and cosmetically, as mentioned before, it is hard to fault the rifle. This barrel is equipped with the classic (ordinary) Ballard rifling. The bore is in perfect condition.
The four blanking screws are in position on top of the action and appear undisturbed. The fore-end is unblemished. The butt-stock is fitted with the standard factory fitted “Marlin” hard rubbed butt-pad.
These rifles are no longer produced and opportunities to acquire these rifles in such excellent condition are becoming more and more scarce.
