Excellent opportunity to buy a non-used Browning 1895 in .30-40 govt’
Obtained from an American Bankrupt Stock Auction in the mid-west. One apparently un-used Browning Model 1895 with a five-shot internal box magazine, chambered in .30-40 govt’ (Krag) This is an excellent round to shoot for our purposes. Arguments and highly informed discussion on the merits and shortfalls of the .30 calibre government choice of the time, are, quite frankly irrelevant for our uses; as we are not concerned about knock-down power – that is unless the Zombies invade! To shoot on a target range this round is a superb combination of smooth, low powered accuracy – and that is speaking from personal experience. I always think of the Roll-Royce when I am shooting this one.
Here we have a recently produced Browning built in Japan ( don’t even get me started on Japanese manufacture – to me, in layman’s terms, they seem to take every thing we do and just make it better ! Look at all the Japanese cars on the road ) This 1895 bears the serial number “01469PV187″ in very small text on the RHS of the receiver. This is repeated on the original box which comes with the rifle. Also included is the generic Browning Model 1895 booklet, unsigned or stamped with any owner information. The rifle is 42.3/4″ in overall length. The round blued barrel is 24″ long exactly and the trigger pull is 13.1/2” to centre.
Superb original finish stocks with flat steel matt butt-plate. Very good deep, high polished blued finish. The gun is as you would take it of the shelf. Standard open buck-horn rear sight with beaded blade fore sight. These 1895 just feel so right when you shoulder them. Perfect bore smooth action. The barrel is marked on the LHS as follows: “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN. UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q. / MADE IN JAPAN” On the obverse it is marked; “BROWNING 1895 / CALIBRE .30-40“
I can’t fault this rifle.
