Imposing Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle by Browning
A Winchester Model 1886 Lever Action Rifle built by Browning. This big fun rifle is 45″ in overall length with a chunky octagonal barrel of exactly 26″ length. There is a full length tubular magazine under the barrel, with a sling mounting point 6″ from the end. This hefty ’86 is chambered for the .45/70 Government round. The serial number which has been placed just below the loading gate on the RHS of the action is “06504PT197.
The rifle is finished in a high gloss quality black. All parts with the exception of the bolt locking bars are finished thus, they are in the white. It is a very good finish which has stood the test of its life so far without fail. There are no visible scratches or dings, all high edges are still intact. The ONLY slight failure of the finish is a very small area on the front outer edge of the trigger guard, which looks as it may have had the origins of its failure in the factory. There is minor spotting in the black which has hardly broken the surface.
The rifle is half stocked in the traditional manner with a crescent moon butt-plate. The plain fore-end has a steel blackened nose cap to it to match the rest of the rifle. There is a sling mounting point just forward of the toe in the stock. Both stocks are in very good unblemished condition, this rifle has been looked after well. Behind the hammer on the upper tang is the model designation; “BROWNING MODEL 1886”. The octagonal barrel has simple buck-horn rear sights and a bead sight dovetailed towards the muzzle.
On the LHS of the barrel near the breech end is the caliber inscription; “45-70 GOVT.” Further forward on the same side are the following details; “BROWNING ARMS COMPANY MORGAN, UTAH & MONTREAL P.Q.” Adjacent and on the opposite flat the model designation is repeated; ” BROWNING MODEL 1886 CALIBER .45-70 GOVT” Back at the breech on the same flat are the Nitro-Proof marks which clearly show the “LP” mark with the year which is 2011.
A cheaper way of owning one of the big Winchesters without risk of damaging an antique. This rifle is going to be a lot of fun to shoot. Judging by the weight, even the most dangerous home-loader is not going to be able to destroy this rifle. Offered with Browning Shipment Box.
