Lever Action .45-90 Winchester Rifle.

s/n 89098 .45-90 cal

26″Round Blued barrel, originally blue casehardened finish – about 5% remaining on action. Walnut Stock. serial number indicates manufactured in 1893.

This rifle was produced for the English market as several features indicate; Straight style stock with shotgun flat-ended butt with plain metal butt plate. Three piece rear leaf sights with central silver line and the weapon has British proof marks and calibre size in-front of the breech on the left-hand side of the barrel. The barrel also sports the retailers name and address “ROGERS. WATFORD. ENGLAND.” as well as the caliber markings (451,) government proof and viewing marks and American makers address.

The model designation “Model 1886” is on the upper tang with patent dates and serial number on the lower. Full length steel tubular magazine. Original niter blue hammer, bolt and loading gate.

Condition: This rifle has a very pleasing all over smooth patina to the wood work, with minor scratches and dings consummate with its age. The barrel, action, lever and butt plate show a brown/grey patina all over. There are no signs of any reworking to metal or wood, this weapon has not been disturbed in any way, and it still shoots beautifully! There is minor pitting of some age, along the barrel and a more intense pitting on the bolt although not to the detriment of any colour in both cases. The bore is about average with some pitting concentrated about 2.1/2″ from the muzzle, – this does not seem to affect accuracy.

True collecting is about obtaining untouched pieces, this certainly falls into that category.
