WW II Russian M 91/30 PU-Sniper………..(F 1133)

WW II 1943 PU Sniper dated 1943 (assembled)
A good representative example of a constructed WW II M91/30 PU “Sniper’s Rifle”. The original rifle built in 1943 to repel the Nazi hoards from Mother Russia. Chambered in 7.62 x 54R with a five shot internal, single stack magazine. Correct, matching “bent” bolt finished in the white. The balance of the rifle is standard military blue with virtually no wear. Stock in superb original condition with overall smooth finish. The Russian Birch hardwood stock is sealed with the usual Russian lacqure. In time, as this surface gets damaged, its very hard brittal surface, tends to flake-off revealing the pale timber underneath. This stock is showing that kind of damage, however none of it detracts from the overall condition to age ratio of what is normal to see.
Standard military specification for an M91/30 with regular open rear sights, graduated from 100 to 2000 yards, no windage and open “U” sight picture. Single post front sight within protective ring. Full length cleaning rod under barrel. The rifle itself is 48.1/2″ long. The round barrel is a nominal 29″ long. The trigger Pull to centre is 13.1/2″. The follower within the magazine is strongly blued and shows very little sign of use. Action is smooth. Bore dark and rough and fairly dark with rifling, may need attention.
The barrel shank bears all the details of the rifles life story in its markings;- “Soviet Hammer & Cycle within laurel leaves / large C with iner small c (imitation Snipers mark) /1943 r / 2860 / Izhevsk arrow within a Triangle.” The serial number is repeated on the heel of the steel butt-plate, and the floor-plate of the magazine. As mentioned above the “2860” is on the rib of the bolt, clearly visible. The rear section of the bolt also carries the Izhevsk marking.
The scope mount is in good condition with rough machining marks which can still be seen on the flat surfaces, as can the serial number including its cyrillic prefix. The scope is a good representation of a PU scope with twin turrets and three point reticule, but no external markings. The twin turrets affect windage and elevation. All the screws are the correct slotted type. The top of the scope barrel is marked in a modern maner with “NO20143” between the rings. Optics very good.
In the centre of the RH butt-stock iunder the finish is a Refurbishment mark from a Soviet facility probably in the Ukraine; it consists of a square with a diagonal through it. An good example of the famous PU Sniper as used in WW II and beyond (Notably, popping up in the Ukraine conflict recently!) A weapon which helped shape history 80 years ago and is still playing a part today.
