Martin-Henry Carbine by CITADEL

An interesting Carbine if you are a Martini-Henry Man. Chambered in .303 with Enfield rifling; a weapon assembled in the Famous Citadel of Ciaro.  British parts made in Great Britian by original manufactures and then sold to Egypt to assemble in that famous fort – no doubt in some deal designed to maintain allies at the time !  This example coincidentaly shows a date of 1903; from that time onwards further examples had all the original markings removed, so would not have been date.

So as this carbine is actually dated 1903 it will be one of the last in that contract to have the original markings upon it.  On the LHS of the action it has the “BSA stacked rifles  motife / B.S.A. & M.Co/1897. /III.” To the top LHS of the same face are two original government proofs.  On the RHS it shows “*/half moon symbol/CITADEL/1903.” (not to be confused with the Turkish Half Moon)  Thumb indentation in the top rear of the action.  “E” on the top flat of the barrels Knox form denoting Enfield rifling as opposed to Metford rifling which wore too quickly.

The serial number “814 /c” on the exposed section of the RHSknox form on the lHS are all the proof marks of which there are many.  Most recently the rifle has passed nitro proof.  Also the horizontal crows foot mark.  Flip up rear rifle sight graduated to 1800 yards with 1 to 500 yard graduation upon the LHS of the sight base.  Open V aiming point.  Cocking indicator to the RHS of action.  Standard length short lever under to open falling block.

Overall the carbine is 37″ long.  The round re-blued barrel is 21″ long.  The trigger is 13.5/8″ from serrated trigger to centre of brass butt-plate.   The whole has been re-bluued at some point.  Highly figured walnut stock, twin sling swivels.  Guarded front sight.  Side mount for a sword type bayonet.

FAC Required.  Stock No’ F 1114.

£ 795.00
